although i was born in southern california and grew up near the beaches of cuba, coastal north carolina, and australia, i've never really been much of a beach person.
so many of my least favorite things manage to come together during a day at the beach.
my top 5 terrible beach day encounters
1. swarms of hungry seabirds
2.myself in a swimsuit
3. sandy armpits
4. other people in swimsuits
5. belly button rings
however!
while the beach itself isn't really a desired destination of mine, i'm positively crazy about the casual surfer style it inspires.
today's post: my tribute to cool, california-esque beach style.

i love scott campbell's funny illustrations-- this one of the beach boys is too cute.

i really want to stick some tea light candles in the bottom of a few glass jars and set them in the sand on a late beach night with my partner in crime.
i think i might have to get these linen TOMS just so i can match the jars...
so lovely!

for a huge dose of eclectic california style, please please please go to Fashion Toast!
you won't regret it.
rumi neely oozes style and personality-- i wish i were half as daring as she is with her styling.
i love how she mixes high-fashion and designer items with vintage and thrifted finds.
downtown wilmington has some great vintage shops-- i know exactly where i'm heading once my family moves back to north carolina in a few weeks...
